About Brighton

The history of Brighton is a long and interesting one, and there is no better way to learn than to visit the cities long standing relics. The Royal Pavilion was built by Henry Holland and commissioned by the ever-notorious Prince Regent, who later became King George IV. Come and visit his stunning Indian Palace, where it was said that the womaniser met with his lover in the early 19th Century, and watch Brighton history unravel.

The Palace Pier is another place where visitors can learn about Brighton and Hove history first hand. The third pier built in Brighton, and the only one to still be in use, The Palace Pier, was damaged by fire in 2003. The fire, however, was kept under control and the tourist attractions along with many rides and the arcade was reopened the following day.

No one can say that Brighton History is boring and lots of different tours of the city can enlighten new Brightonians to the vast number of ghost stories and legends that make the history of Brighton so exciting!

Things to do in Brighton and Hove

Brighton is home to over 400 bars and pubs, not mention many nightclubs and various music venues so it lives up to it's '24 hour party-town' reputation! As well as familiar chains like Wetherspoons and Oceana on West Street, Brighton also houses many busy smaller pubs in the Laines. The Mash Tun is an excellent indie bar, popular among others, with Brighton band The Kooks.

Drinking and clubbing are not the only things to do in Brighton. The Theatre Royal plays host to many touring productions and the hundreds of music venues in the town as well as two summer music festivals means there are things to do in Brighton every day of the week.

The Laines is a world renowned shopping area made-up of hundreds of independent boutique shops and Churchill Square packs in shoppers' favourite chains under-one roof. If you get bored exploring the various shopping sites, music venues and restaurants, Brighton beach is a shingle beach and has been awarded a blue flag.
